Bettysue Massek, 81, of Silver Lake, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018.

She was born July 3, 1937 in Norfolk, Virginia the daughter of Jesse Milton and Shirley Lillian (Masters) Perry. She attended Norview High School, Norfolk, VA.

Bettysue owned and operated the Hug A Bug Day Care in Silver Lake, KS, retiring on “Betty Massek Day” in 1994.

She was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church, Red Hat Ladies, Women of the Moose, Order of Eastern Star, Shawnee County HDU, served as a Boy and Girl Scout Leader and volunteered for Meals On Wheels in Silver Lake.

Bettysue married Harold E. Massek on July 21, 1957 in Norfolk, VA. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2018. Survivors include a daughter, Pam Gross, Topeka; her son, Jesse (Glenda) Massek, Silver Lake; five grandchildren, J.R. (Heather) Gross, Jaymie (Jason) Genovese, Erin, Erika and Jesse “Dalton” Massek; and 2 great-grandchildren, Grant and Cora Genovese.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jesse “Bud” Milton Perry, Jr.; and a sister, Carolyn Lee Chenault; and her son-in-law, Clark Gross.

Bettysue enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandkids, oil painting, teaching Sunday School, gardening, canning, camping, family dinners, and visiting Branson, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Silver Lake United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service..

Parker Price Chapel is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
