OBITUARY: William Merrill "Bill" Mohney
William Merrill "Bill" Mohney, Sr., 84, Topeka, died Tues., July 24, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Topeka, the son of William B. and Edith M. (Foss) Mohney.
He was graduated from Topeka High School in 1940. He served as a flight officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Bill was a machinist in the Santa Fe Shops for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. United Methodist Men, Combat Air Museum, Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion, and Topeka Model Railroad Club.
Bill was married to F. Irene Knight for over 64 years and were lifelong residents of Topeka. Irene preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2007.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Marvin) Dunlap of Lexington, KY; 2 sons: Bill (Bevie) Mohney of Jerusalem, Israel and Richard (Ann Leeman) Mohney of Topeka; a sister, Helene Goheen, of Springfield, MO; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Sat., July 28, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military graveside honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Bill will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
