Winifred Carmen (Blankenship) Hague, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at a Topeka hospital. Winnie was born October 8, 1933, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Carmon and Frances (Frisbie) Blankenship. She graduated from Newton High School in Newton, KS.
Winnie married L. Allan Hague on January 15, 1955, in Newton. She spent much of her life raising her family. She also volunteered for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, hospice, and Meals on Wheels in Newton, and, after her children were in school, held several jobs, her favorite of which was bookkeeper at Davidson Music Store.
After retirement, Winnie and Allan moved to Topeka in 1999 to be nearer to family. They joined Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church, where Winnie worked as church pianist for many years. She was an incredibly talented pianist for nearly 70 years, and loved the Shawnee Heights UMC choir and church family. In 2013, Winnie transferred membership to Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Topeka, where her youngest grandchildren attend.
Winnie is survived by her son, Barth Hague and his wife, Betty Jo, of Newton; son, Brian Hague and his wife, Tonya, of Overland Park; daughter, Cathy Kofoid and her husband, Kyle, of Topeka; grandchildren Zach Hague, CJ (Gaby) Hague, Sydney (Andrew) Feipel, Julia Kofoid, and Eli Kofoid; great-grandson, Aiden Feipel; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Allan; her parents; two sisters, Eunice Anderson and Vivian Morford; and three brothers, Leon Blankenship, Kent Blankenship, and Jerry Blankenship.
Winnie loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. She also loved the dogs she had over the years, particularly Petey, Bogey, and Lola. She was an avid reader and could beat almost any friend or family member at Scrabble. Winnie also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She had a kind and generous heart, and will be missed by many who were blessed to know her.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 10, at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service hour at the church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 19, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
