Wilma Naethe
Wilma Carver Naethe, 84, passed away in Jefferson City, Missouri on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, after a sudden illness. She was born May 7, 1932, the daughter of Charles Billings and Lois Hiller Carver.
She attended Topeka area schools and graduated from the Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1953. Wilma had a long career in nursing, working as an RN in surgery for 10 years and then 30 years as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) after graduating from anesthesia school at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois in 1965. After her retirement in 1992, she was a volunteer at Stormont-Vail where she has served as president of the Auxiliary, advisor to the president, as well as leader of various committees and executive boards. In 2013, she was presented with the Distinguished Auxilian Award. During the ceremony, it was noted that she "sacrifices herself many times by placing the needs of others and her volunteer responsibilities ahead of taking care of herself in logging over 6,750 hours of volunteer service."
She was involved in the Kansas Association of Nurse Anesthetists, serving as President, and was on the Board of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
She married Erich William Naethe on August 6, 1971 in Topeka, Kansas. He died March, 2012. She is survived by her brother, Bernard "Sparky" Carver (Karolyn), Jefferson City, MO, daughters Nancy (Richard) Baker, Manhattan, KS and Kathryn Schartz, Lawrence, KS, stepchildren Claudia Kersey, Topeka, Connie Gent, Burlington, WA Kendall Naethe (Gail), Everett, WA, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Richard, Edgar, and Mervin, a sister, Rozella, a stepdaughter, Caroline Gibson-Sullivan, and a grandson, Toby Gibson.
A memorial ceremony will be Monday, October 17, 2016, at 10:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, KS. Private interment of her cremated remains will be at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka at a later date.
