Bill Shepherd Sr.
William R. "Bill" Shepherd Sr., 64, Topeka, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at home.
Mr. Shepherd was a police officer in Sidney, Ohio, and later was a maintenance supervisor for Hankamers Construction in Topeka. He worked for most the freight lines in Topeka as a driver and in dispatch. He worked for Tomco and Larry Meiers trucking for many years before retiring in 2001. He also was an AMWAY distributor and served as an aircraft mechanic at Forbes Air Force Base.
He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Sidney, Ohio, to Charles E. and Sally Inez Massengale Shepherd.
He married Marilyn K. Sams on Aug. 16, 1958, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Nina Taylor, Topeka; four sons, William "Billy" Shepherd Jr., Thomas "Tom" Shepherd, Anthony "Tony" Shepherd and Michael "Mike" Shepherd, all of Topeka; his stepmother, Eva Moon Shepherd, Sidney, Ohio; four brothers, Roger Shepherd, Haughton, La., Charles "Chuck" Shepherd II, Anna, Ohio, John Shepherd, Sidney, Ohio, and Jim Brooks, Fayetteville, Ga.; eight sisters, Carol Ann Shepherd, Chattanooga, Tenn., Susan Gariety, Anna, Ohio, Mary Terry, Sidney, Ohio, Barbara Haning, Piqua, Ohio, Katy Chorba, Omaha, Neb., Bobbie Jo Davidson, Tampa, Fla., Audrey Gray, Fayetteville, N.C., and Ellen Long, Douglasville, Ga.; and 22 grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery will be at a later date. Mr. Shepherd will lie in state at the mortuary after 3 p.m. Thursday, where visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
