William R. "Bill" Mawdsley Sr.
William R. "Bill" Mawdsley Sr., 77, Topeka, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Topeka. He was born June 11, 1926, in Everest, the son of Thomas E. and Nettie M. Blacketer Mawdsley. He attended Atchison schools. He worked at Individual Mausoleum Co., Atchison. Then he moved to Topeka, where he worked at Sullivan Cleaners for 37 years, owning and operating the business for the last eight years. He sold the business in 1987. He then worked for Roach Hardware for 11 years. Mr. Mawdsley was a member of Huron Lodge No. 72, AF&AM, for over 54 years. He was a member of two camping clubs, the Restless Wheels Club and the Railroaders Sunchasers. He married Doris F. Worrel on July 13, 1943, in Atchison. She survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Kay and her husband, Ivan Yocum Jr., Topeka, a son, William R. Mawdsley Jr., and his wife, Jane, Topeka; a sister, Mary Irwin, Valley Falls; four grandchildren,; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. William R. Mawdsley Sr., will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W.
