William Roy "Bill" Cox, 88, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 in his home, after his fight with cancer.
He was born December 22, 1934, in Onaga, Kansas, the son of Harold and Stella (Gideon) Cox. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1954 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Washburn University.
Roy was enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and served from 1957-1963. His first job was at the Coca Cola factory. He then worked at DuPont/Flexel for 37 years and retired in 1995. He loved working at Shawnee County Parks and Rec driving patrons from their cars to the ballpark and greeting KSU fans at every home game for over 20 years.
He enjoyed coaching youth baseball and softball, being an advisor for Junior Achievement, he was a 50 year member of Orient Topeka Lodge #17 Fateral Order of Masonic AF&AM, he served as a Past Master as well. He served on the state executive board for the International Order of Rainbow Girls, serving as the state Rainbow Dad and was on the advisory counsel for the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay and an honorary member for life of the DeMolay Legion of Honor. He was a member of Kaw Valley Scottish Rite and Topeka Arab Shrine and a member of Kansas Order of Eastern Star Mayetta chapter 383. One of his joys was traveling and he made it to 49 of the 50 states that were on his bucket list. Spending time with his family was always a high priority for Roy throughout his life
The Facetime, phone calls, letters, cards, and visits Roy received during the final weeks of his life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him.
William married Carrie Sue Robinson on September 9, 1962 in Topeka, Kansas, she survives at the home. Other survivors include his daughters, Carrie C.(Tony) Andrade, Manhattan, and Cristy C. (William, deceased) Graham, Nashville, TN; siblings, Dale (Ireeta) Cox (Topeka), Gail (Joe, deceased) Schneider( Palenstine, TX), Neil (Sharon) Cox (Ozawkie, KS) , and sister-in-law Judy (Ray, deceased)Cox, Topeka; grandchildren, Anthony W. "TJ" Andrade, Lubbock, TX, Carrie E. Andrade, Manhattan, KS, Alexandria R. "Ale" Andrade, Young Harris, GA, Chance J. Andrade, Topeka, Dirk W. Andrade, Manhattan, Kassondra C. "KC" Graham, Nashville, TN, MaKayla J. Graham, Nashville, TN, Jacquelyn P. "Jac" Graham Nashville, TN, Victoria L. Graham, Nashville, TN, and Gabriella M. Graham Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Sophia M. Stanley, Charles D. Stanley, Theodore G. "Theo" Stanley, and Richard A. "Dru" Schiffelbein IV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Stella; brother, Harold Ray Cox, son-in-law, William May Graham III, and brother-in-law, Joe Schneider.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Parker-Price 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October, 20, 2023 at Parker-Price. Burial will follow at Mayetta Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at Parker-Price Reception Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arab Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund. This fund helps provide transportation of children to the Shriner's Children Hospitals. Donations may be mailed to 1305 SE Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612.
