William P. Redd, age 70, died on Feb. 13, 2011 at a nursing home in Austin, TX after a long illness. Bill was a Topeka resident most of his life prior to moving in August of 2009.
Bill served in the US Navy for 20 years, and during that time received the honor of Chief of the Year. After his retirement from the Navy, Bill worked for Hughes Aircraft and Uniys Corporation. Bill was born Dec. 30, 1940 in Boston, MA, the son of the late H. Proctor and Mary (Kenney) Redd of Topeka.
He is survived by sons, William (Kevin) Redd of Fenton, Mo; Jeffery Redd of Austin, TX, and Michael Redd of Chamblee, GA; grandsons, Kevin, and Brian Redd, Matthew and Kevin Henry; granddaughter, Jennifer Redd; his sister, Judith Berry, of Bradenton, FL; brother, Thomas P. Redd of Topeka; and two nephews, Brett and Rick Berry. Bill and his dog, Greystone, were featured in many articles by his close friend, the late Jim Ramberg, outdoor writer for the Topeka Capital-Journal.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, 2-26-11 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
