OBITUARY: William M. McDaniel
William Mark McDaniel, 85, Silver Lake, passed away Sat., Sept. 13, 2008, at Midland Hospice. He was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Silver Lake, the son of William Marshall and Nora (Wyatt) McDaniel. He attended Silver Lake Schools graduating in 1941.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy Air Force during World War II. He worked for Stauffer Publications for 41 years and was a member of the printers' union. He was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, Silver Lake I.O.O.F. Lodge # 132, Silver Lake Lions Club, and the Silver Lake American Legion Post # 160. He also attended the Silver Lake Senior Citizens Center. He was the Silver Lake Fire Chief for 17 years and had served on the Silver Lake School Board. Bill was an active volunteer in the Silver Lake Community for many years.
He was married to Marjorie D. Martinek on Sept. 28, 1944, at Jacksonville, FL. She survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law: JoAnne and Erick Glanz of Prescott, AZ; a son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Mary McDaniel of Silver Lake; 4 grandchildren: Chris Glenn of Denver, CO, Angi Glenn Quincy of L.A., CA, Jay McDaniel of Silver Lake, and Matthew McClain of Silver Lake; and 2 great-grandchildren: Liam Quincy and London Quincy both of L.A., CA.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tues., Sept. 16, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Silver Lake American Legion Post # 160 will conduct military honors at Walnut Hill Cemetery. Bill will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Mon., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
