William Keith "Bill" Walter, 75, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014.
He was born September 11, 1938 in Louisville, Kansas, one of seven children born to the union of Albert and Thelma (Bowman) Walter. He was a graduate of St. George High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later served in the Kansas Air National Guard, Topeka.
Mr. Walter retired from Santa Fe Railroad, Topeka.
He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge No.555, Topeka. He was an avid bowler, bowling on several bowling leagues and K-State football fan.
Bill married Wanda P. Slater. They later divorced. He later married Sharon Lee Stalnaker on June 11, 1983 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Pam Smith, Topeka and Robin (Kent) Deiter, Wichita; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and siblings, Mary Pratt, Kansas City, MO, Doris Lopez, Texas and Velma Dinger, Miltonvale, KS.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the ceremony. Cremation will follow the ceremony. Bill will lie in state from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
