William James Gatewood

William James "Bill" Gatewood, 65, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
He was born September 24, 1947 in Burlingame, KS, the son of Charles Harrison and Thelma Irene (Nichol) Gatewood. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
Mr. Gatewood was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka for 20 years before retiring.
Survivors include two sons, Spencer James Gatewood of Jacksonville, FL and Shane Hayden Gatewood of Arizona; 2 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and four brothers, Charles (Judy) Gatewood and Daniel (Annie) Gatewood, all of Topeka, John (Peggy) Gatewood of San Diego, CA and Larry (Patti) Gatewood of Stokesdale, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Gatewood and a sister, Roxanna Gatewood Brown.
A graveside ceremony will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave., Topeka. Bill will lie in state from 2-8 p.m., Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS.
