William "Bill" D. Griffiths, 70, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011.
Bill was born October 20, 1941, in Topeka, son of Norman and Grace Griffiths. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1960. Bill served in the US Navy from 1960-1966. He was united in marriage to Joan Dickinson on December 17, 1964. Bill worked for Westar Energy until retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Bill was an avid sportsman, enjoying softball, swimming, golfing, darts, ping pong, bowling, and yo-yoing.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Carrie (Curt) Hogan, Deana Griffiths, and Melissa "Missie" (James) Wood; all of Topeka; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Griffiths, Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Jeannie Kathleen.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
