William Gibson
William Thomas Gibson, 83, Topeka, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Gibson worked for the City Ice Co. of Topeka from 1964 to 1973 and also was employed with Menninger for 18 years before retiring in 1982. He served in the Army and Army Air Corps and eventually joined the Air Force, where he served until retiring in 1964 at the rank of technical sergeant.
He was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Holton, to Rollo W. and Ada V. Proctor Gibson. He graduated from Silver Lake High School and had lived in Topeka since 1961.
Mr. Gibson was a member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.
He married Betty J. Martin on Sept. 15, 1946, in California. They divorced.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy K. Kohler and Denise D. Counts, both of Topeka, and Debra Sepulveda, San Ramon, Calif.; four sons, Gary Lee Gibson, Livermore, Calif., Randy Ray Gibson, Aurora, Colo., Dennis Eugene Gibson, Topeka, and Charles Joseph Gibson, Lynwood, Calif.; four sisters, Alberta J. Ford, Baltimore, Md., Grace A. Helmert, Lawrence, Velma Faye Burris, Shawnee, and Veda Maye Sharon, Topeka; two brothers, Edwin R. Gibson, Green Castle, Ind., and Phil Gibson, Freemont, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. A Fort Riley funeral detail will conduct military honors at the graveside. Mr. Gibson will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at the mortuary, where visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
