William "Bill" Vercil Argabright, 85, Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2005 at a Meriden care home.
Bill was born March 6, 1920 in Fairview, Missouri, the son of Rev. William R. and Virginia R. Morrell Argabright. He grew up in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Bill entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served on active duty until 1945. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1973 with the rank of Major.
He graduated from McPherson College in 1948 and received his Masters Degree from Drake University in 1958. Bill taught in Silver Lake for 8 years and then the Topeka 501 District until he retired in 1987. He taught at Holiday Junior High and Chase Middle School.
Bill was a member of the Church of the Brethren, a life member of the N.E.A., the Kansas State Teachers Association, the West Topeka Kiwanis, and a life member of both the V.F.W. and American Legion.
He married Evelyn Darlene Royer on December 22, 1946. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Rita Jo Newman, Topeka; a son, William Charles Argabright and wife, Candi, Colorado Springs, Colorado; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Rochester Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Argabright will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Mortuary in North Topeka after 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
