OBITUARY: William Adkins
William Adkins, 86, Topeka, KS, died Sun., Jan. 4, 2009, at Midland Hospice House. He was born Aug. 8, 1922, at Williamson, WV, the son of Ken and Rosie (Toler) Adkins.
Bill served in World War II from 1943 to 1946. Upon discharge he worked for the Norfolk & Western RR in Virginia, for 14 years as a car inspector. He transferred to Santa Fe RR in Topeka in 1960 where he worked as a carman until his retirement in 1983. He was a former resident of Grundy, VA.
He was married to Elizabeth G. Baber on April 8, 1946, at Pikeville, KY. She survives.
Other survivors include 2 daughters: Joyce Oldridge (Ken) and Debbie Lozzi both of Topeka; 4 grandchildren: Tina Pace (David), Julie Price (Randy), Cory Zellers (Sara), and Kylie Essman (Mark); and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wed., Jan. 7, 2009, at Faith Family Life Centre. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Bill will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tues., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
