Wilbur Lee LaRue
Wilbur Lee LaRue (1924-2017) died Wednesday, February 15 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka, KS, at age 92. He was preceded in death by wife, Anna LaRue (2014) and step-daughter Carol Howey (1998). He leaves his three sons, Michael (Shari), Chris (Karen), and Dennis (June), daughter Judy Green and two step-daughters, Jan (Dave) Russo and Bonnie Odgres. He has approximately 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.
Wilbur was the son of Charles and Opal LaRue and was raised in Nevada, MO, with his brother, Glen. He served in the US Army's 273 F. A. B. (1943-1945) and was sent to Germany during WWII. Wilbur received five bronze stars for the battle and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He married Betty Wyatt (1944) and was remarried to Anna Howey in 1982. He worked for Standard-Amoco Oil for 33 years. Wilbur was a life member of the American Legion Post 400 and VFW Post 1650. He and Anna enjoyed RV camping with many friends throughout the years.
Military graveside honors will be at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Tuesday, in Mount Hope's Abbey Chapel. Wilbur will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka.
