Welbert “Willie” Hunt, 82, of Topeka passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor. Willie was born in Fairmont, North Carolina on May 27, 1937, one of 10 children in his family. He grew up on a cotton and tobacco farm in Robeson County. He moved to Camden, Arkansas in the late 1950s to work for an underground utility company with a family friend who went by the name of “Little Man.” The job took him to Burlington, Kansas where he met Janice Bee Ogle in Lyndon, Kansas. Welbert worked for USD 501 in Topeka for 37 years before retiring from Topeka West High School.
Welbert and Janice were married on July 2, 1961. They had four children, Derek, Danette, Dennis and Dena, 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 21 st at Davidson Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation. Interment will be held at the Vassar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
