Wayne Edward Schroeder, 88, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at Lexington Park with his family by his side.
Wayne was born October 21, 1930, in Olpe, Kansas, the son of Carl George and Clara Bell (Dryden) Schroeder Quinn. Wayne married the love of his life, Thelma Lee Collinge on March 17, 1952 in Emporia, KS. She preceded him in death on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Together they had two children.
He joined the Navy on January 1, 1951, serving as a seaman on the USS Walke during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1952 and returned home to take care of his mom and siblings after his dad's passing.
He began working at the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad on September 9, 1947. He worked in the shops for 40 years until his retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Forgy (Josh Brohaugh); and his granddaughter, Alison Forgy, who was the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, three siblings, and daughter, Sandra (Schroeder) Wettengel.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Chicago Mound Cemetery near Emporia, KS.
