Wayne Alfred Meinert
Wayne Alfred Meinert, 55, Topeka, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 19, 1949, in Atchison, the son of Alfred L. and Laura R. Albers Meinert. He lived most of his life in Topeka. He graduated from Seaman High School and attended Washburn University and Kaw Valley Vocational Technical School. He was a communication center specialist in the Air Force and served more than three years overseas. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Mr. Meinert worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for more than 36 years and was a Banbury Trucker until he retired this month. He was a member of AFL-CIO Local 307 and served on the Board of Directors of the Rubber Workers Credit Union. He married Charlene S. Guyer on Oct. 7, 1972, in Crete, Greece. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Misty S. and Johnathan Q.B. Oshel, Melissa D. and Timothy D. Gentry, and Michelle L. Meinert, all of Topeka; his parents, Alfred L. and Laura L. Meinert, Topeka; a brother, Duayne E. Meinert, Sparks, Nev.; a sister, Sharon D. Dutton, Concordia; grandchildren, Colton and Rylie Oshel, and Landyn and Tatum Gentry. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. Mr. Meinert will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions and may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 N.W.
