Warren Swank

Warren Swank, 73, of Meriden, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Midland Hospice House.

He was born January 10, 1951, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Glenn and Ida (Metsker) Swank. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1969 as the last graduating class of Meriden High. He attended Washburn University for one year before starting his career with KDOT. He started as a heavy equipment operator and quickly moved up to Supervisor, where he spent 25 years of his career. He retired in 2004. After retirement from the State of Kansas, he was a transporter/courier for Stormont Vail Hospital for 15 years.

He married Kathy Fanning on September 1, 1974 in Lakin, KS. They welcomed two sons to their union.

Warren was a community sports enthusiast and coached youth softball for over 20 years as part of the Meriden Fun Fair Association. He successfully advocated for adult co-rec softball and volleyball leagues in Meriden in which he played on for five years. He was a past President of the Meriden/ Jefferson West Alumni Association for a number of years. Warren umpired for many years for youth softball and baseball in the Eastern Kansas area.

In his spare time, he loved to tinker on the family farm. Warren enjoyed reading, especially about the Civil War and US history events. Warren was a family man and they enjoyed playing card games together. During wheat harvest, Warren would help on Kathy's family farm. He loved rock and roll music with Queen being his favorite. Warren was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching them play.

He leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, Kathy Swank of the home; two sons, Nathan Swank of Topeka and Aaron C. Swank of Columbia, SC; one grandson, Landyn Duncan of Manhattan, KS; siblings, Gregg (Sherri) Swank of Plano, TX Deborah L. Swank and Paul (Brenda Bauman) A. Swank both of Topeka, KS and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, August 19th, 2024 at Parker Price and Davidson Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation, Grand Central Station P.O. Box 477, New York, NY 10163 or to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
