Wanda N. Tjelmeland
Wanda N. Tjelmeland, 67, Topeka, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004. She was born in Story County, Iowa, on May 28, 1937, to Weston and Nettie Olson of McCallsburg, Iowa. Wanda married Marion Tjelmeland on Jan. 23, 1960. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kyle Tjelmeland and Kirk Tjelmeland, both of Topeka; one brother, Wayne Olson, San Francisco; a sister, Wanita Burton, Lancaster, Ohio; her mother, Nettie Hougen, Topeka; and seven grandchildren, Keaton, Chase, Connor, Carson, Amber, Kim and Miranda. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and taught in Iowa for several years. Moving to Topeka, she received a degree in elementary education from Washburn University. She taught first grade at Rochester School for 30 years in the Seaman school district and was a substitute teacher for five years after retirement. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church w ith burial to follow in Rochester Cemetery. Wanda will lie in state after 3 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W.
