Walter J. Reich, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2005 at his home. He was born on August 16, 1923 in Topeka, the son of Walter C. and Margaret Oberer Reich. He was a life long Topeka resident. Walter graduated from Topeka High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Walter was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years before retiring in August of 1985. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W., Traffic Club Golf League and the Santa Fe Retirees Golf League at Lake Shawnee Golf Course, Forbes Men's Golf Club, the Santa Fe Retirees Bowling League and was a member of AA for 23 years. He married Dorothy L. Rosen on March 23, 1946 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Warren Reich and wife, Kathleen of Topeka, three daughters, Cheryl Burkhart and husband, Joe of Topeka, Karla Mosqueda and husband Freddie of Topeka, Mary Klug and husband Michael of Lincoln, Nebraska ; seven grandchildren, Craig Mosqueda, Scott Reich, Stephanie Malcom, Hollie Becker, Nicole Mosqueda , Ryan Klug, Lindsey Klug ; nine great-grandchildren, Shelby Reich, Peyton Reich, Karley Malcom, Jalen Lang, Konnor Becker, Anna Claire Mosqueda and Jacob Malcom, Courtnie Cowsert, Cheyenne Winter-Plaggemeyer and one sister, Virginia Norland of Topeka. He was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Mae Spencer. Walter was loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Walter will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening.
