Walter Fredrick Alt
Walter Fredrick Alt, 64, Topeka, died Mon., May 11, 2009. He was born Jan. 26, 1945, in Johnstown, PA, the son of Elmer and Stella Alt. He graduated from Ferndale High School in Johnstown, PA; and was two time All-Around state gymnastic champion. Walt served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1965. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. from 1965 to 1983 and Hill's Pet Nutrition from 1983 to 2008. He was an avid baseball and softball player for 60 years and enjoyed playing golf with family and friends. Walt was a member of the Perry Country Club. He was married to Sherry Kay Lucas on Sept. 16, 1965, in Topeka at Forbes Chapel, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Kimberly Lynn VanVleck (Cliff) of Rossville; a son: Kevin Fredrick Alt (Vickie) of Topeka; and six grandchildren: Ciera, Cary, and Savana VanVleck; Tyler Mezger; and Travis and Bailey Alt. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM, Sat., May 16, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Walt will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
