Walter E. "Walt" Fidler, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at a Topeka hospital. He was born April 19, 1922 in Williamstown, KS, the son of Dean and Velma S. (Leaman) Fidler.
Walt served in the 32nd Red Arrow Division of the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He farmed and was employed by the Menninger Foundation Children's Division serving as Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance. He was a member of Silver Lake Post No. Post No. 160 of the American Legion.
Walter married Florence "Marie" Griffith on March 15, 1947 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Vernie Jo Fidler Howey on February 18, 1977, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his two daughters, Anna Fidler and Tina (John) Fassnacht all of Topeka, five grandchildren, Shawn Howey, Jennifer Howey, Jennifer (Fassnacht) Boone, Jeremy Fassnacht and Torrie Fassnacht, three great-grandchildren, Hannah Howey, Nikola and Kepler Fassnacht and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Burial will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Walter will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the funeral home.
