Wallace A. Falter, 96, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was born January 15, 1925 at Alta Vista, Kansas the son of Albert and Lida Ahlers Falter. He was raised near Alta Vista, helping farm while growing up. Wallace even made limestone fence posts for the farm. He graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific area. He sharecropped near Silver Lake following the war. Beginning in 1954 he went to work at Goodyear. He worked in the earthmover tire department prior to retiring in 1984. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working on anything that could be fixed. He turned his home garage into a service garage much like you would find at a service station. He fixed appliances for people and made playground equipment in his backyard for his grandchildren to enjoy.
He was married to Barbara Henderson on November 3, 1949 in Topeka. They later divorced. He later married Elizabeth Earlene Smith. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two children, Dorothy J. Lowhorn of Topeka and Kenneth E. Falter of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; stepchildren, Allen Smith, Lori Smith, Rhonda Shibley, Scott Smith and Larry D. Smith; one brother, Floyd Falter in Texas; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; 14 step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Louise Johnson 2012; sister Achula Bolinger; and stepdaughter, Becky Smith on August 25, 2011
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Davidson Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery southeast of Alta Vista. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Falter will lie in state from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
