Vivian Mier
Vivian V. Mier, 86, Topeka, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Mier and her husband farmed in the Lancaster area until 1948 and they later served as superintendent of Oak Hill Cemetery in Atchison until 1965 and then of the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence until 1986, the last 14 years of which she performed the job alone.
She was born June 25, 1916, in Vale, Iowa, to James M. and Mary Whaley Knight. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham.
Mrs. Mier was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She married Clarence L. Mier on April 23, 1938, in Lancaster. He died March 31, 1972.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Hren, Topeka, and Connie Walker, St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Ethel Ingram, Topeka; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker-Price Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery in Atchison. Mrs. Mier will lie in state at the mortuary after 3 p.m. today, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
