Virginia Penry

Virginia (Norma) Penry, 88, of Meriden, Kansas passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Norma was born on August 25, 1934 to Onn and Grace Nunley of Neosho, Missouri.  She graduated from Anderson High School in 1953.   She was a member of the New Bethel Church at Anderson.

Norma married Cecil Penry of Hoyt in 1954.   Four children were born to this union, Eddy Dean who died in infancy, Twila, David and Daryl who are survivors.

Norma worked at the Holton dress factory, three years before it closed.   After that she became a “Home Maker”, for the state of Kansas assisting older clients in their homes, mainly on the reservation. She worked two years, with that, then decided to start her own cleaning business.   She enjoyed cleaning, and she always had wonderful people that she worked for.   She was dedicated to one family for over 17 years, before retiring in 1995.   Her husband Cecil, passed away on December 12, 1999.

Norma attended the Assembly of God Church in Meriden, and later the Denison Bible Church.  She had become an Honorary Member of the Kanas Sheriff’s Association in December of 2017.

At her request, private graveside services will be held at Muddy Creek Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.   Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka is assisting with the arrangements.   To leave a message for the family online, please visit www.davidsonfuneral.com
