OBITUARY: Virginia Belle Chilgren
Virginia Belle Chilgren, 90, Ozawkie, died Wed., July 9, 2008, at Lexington Park, Topeka. She was born May 6, 1918, at Elkins, WV, the daughter of Eugene E. and Bertie Mae (Isner) Mathews. Virginia graduated from Elkins (WV) High School.
During the World War II war effort she worked at the Goodyear Aircraft Corp. in Akron, OH. She moved to Topeka, when Goodyear transfered her husband to Topeka in 1944. She had been a member of Central Park Christian Church and Topeka Chapter # 462, O.E.S. She and her husband were active in Arab Shrine Temple.
Virginia was married to Arthur Chilgren on Feb. 24, 1940, at Monterey, VA. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Mathews, and a sister, Helen Evick.
Surviving are 5 children: Judith Wiese of Topeka, Bonnie Mello of Mesa, AZ, David Chilgren of Topeka, Steven Chilgren of Topeka, and Kathy S. Broxterman of Ozawkie; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 2 nieces: Carol Ice and Barbara Erickson; and a nephew: Robert Evick.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Mon., July 14, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Virginia will lie in state after 1:00 PM, Sun., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
