Virgil G. Lawton, 67, of Topeka was born January 9, 1950 in Topeka Kansas the son of Charles and Marion Sears Lawton. Virgil served in Vietnam, with the United States Army. In Vietnam, Virgil served as a medic. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal and was an expert rifleman. He was a construction worker, building many bridges over the years, and worked as a cook at a truck stop.
He is survived by his children, Marquita Johnson, Adrian Lawton, Dustin Lawton, Leatha Lawton, Destinee Lawton, Julia Lawton and Ruth Dennis. Also surviving are his siblings, Terry, Anita, Steve, Eric and Joyce.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Manhattan.
