Former Kansas resident Virgil H. Crook, 76, passed away January 13, 2021, at his home in Arvada, Colorado.
Mr. Crook was born April 4, 1944, in Topeka, KS., to Floyd and Gladys Crook. Virgil married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Kimble the summer after graduating from Burlingame High in 1962. He attended Washburn University to pursue a degree in accounting while also becoming a father to two boys, Craig and Gordon. In 1967 they moved to Mandeville, Jamaica, where he taught at a Bible trade school for two years and welcomed two more children, Randy and Christina. Then moving back to Topeka to graduate from Washburn University in 1971. In the fall of '71 the family moved to Texas to attend Rio Grande Bible Institute with the intent to minister in South America.
In 1972, with their four young children they made the journey to South America to begin their ministry of 20 years teaching at a Bible school in Villarrica, Paraguay. Virgil also traveled to Argentina and Uruguay where he preached and encouraged other believers. Their fifth and final child, Kendall joined them in 1977. In 1991, they moved back to the States where he continued to preach and publish gospel material to Spanish speaking countries until his death.
Virgil enjoyed playing basketball (until age 71), tinkering, learning new technology, taking walks, exploring the state of Colorado.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon, two sisters, Irene Honaker and Maxine Mathes; his children Craig (Sara), Gordon (Cathy), Christina (Gerardo), and Kendall (Mariela); 17 grandchildren (Ryan, Cesia, Eric) (Jonathan, Seth) (Lisa, Jesica, Jeanne, Daniel) (Diego, Richard, Carlos, Kailah, Alex) (David, Elizabeth, Ivan) and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Randy (survived by Loida), his brothers Dale, Richard, Wayne, and younger brother Darrell.
A Funeral Ceremony will be 1:00 pm, Friday, January 22, 2021 at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane, Topeka, Ks. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Abundant Grace Fellowship, 18218 W 95th Ave, Arvada, CO 80007.
