Viola M. Ireland

Viola M. Ireland, 100, of Topeka passed away on Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at her daughters’ home at Meriden.   She was born April 1, 1923 in Omaha the daughter of Lester and Charlotte “Pat” Davidson Babcock.  Growing up, Viola helped raise her siblings.  She lived most of her life in Topeka.  Viola was married to Earl on October 14, 1939 in Topeka.  She owned and operated Ireland Tavern in North Topeka with her husband Earl.   She enjoyed making pies, and putting on big family dinners for her family at Thanksgiving and Christmas.   She loved kids in general and adored her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughters, Deloris Walthall of Meriden, Viola Degand of Topeka and Sharon Allison of Topeka; two sisters survive, Christina Calhoun formerly of Harveyville, now living in Topeka and Martha Freeze of Topeka, and  grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Earl “Butch” Ireland and Jerry Ireland; siblings, Donnie Taylor, Raymond Taylor, Robert Taylor, Harry Babcock; and sister, Mary Thomas.
