Veta "Joy" Rhoades, 89, of Wichita, passed away on February 6, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas.
Joy was born on January 28, 1933 in Amarillo, Texas. She was raised by her parents, Glenn and Gertrude (Carlton) Lawson. Later in life she moved to Altamont, Kansas where she attended a school and graduated from LaBette County Community High School in 1950.
On July 8, 1950, Joy married Michael "Mike" J. Rhoades, Jr. Together they lived in Parsons, Kansas and later moved to Topeka, where they made their home. He precedes her in death after 50 years of marriage.
Joy worked at General Printing in Topeka before retiring after several years. She loved animals but especially dogs. She had such a soft spot for them. She enjoyed growing flowers. You could find her outside any chance she had, tending to her garden. Later in life she enjoyed reading Daniel Steel novels and the Bible.
Joy is survived by her sisters, Geneva Brooks, Phyllis Bolinger, and Barbara "Bobbi" Abbott; brother-in-law, Keith Rhoades and sister-in-law, Sharon Cleaver; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael "Mike" J. Rhoades, Jr., both of her parents; and her sister, Irene Hardin.
Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022 10:00 am in the West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
