Vestal "Red" Gilbert Jordan, 84, Topeka, died Sunday, July 3, 2005 at St. Francis Health Center. He was born January 24, 1921 in Mankato, KS, the son of Gilbert C. and Della Jordan.
Red graduated from Silver Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Red retired after working 20 years for U.S.D. 501. He drove the chariot for Aldersgate Village for 10 years.
He was a member of Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W., North Post #400 of the American Legion.
He married Mary Margaret Hahn March 20, 1944 in San Francisco, California. She died February 8, 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Smith, Topeka; a son, Thomas E. Jordan, Topeka; a brother, Ronald Jordan, Midland, MI; a sister, Corinne Gilkison, Topeka; three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Red will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Cremation is planned after visitation. Private inurnment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
