Vernon Lee Wenger
Vernon Lee Wenger, 75, Topeka, died Thursday, January 28, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born May 9, 1940, at Powhattan, the son of Leroy R. and Mary Lee (Reid) Wenger.
Vernon graduated from Powhattan High School and Clark's Business and attended Washburn University. He was employed by the Kansas Corporation Commission.
He was a railroad enthusiast, walking the rails and collecting railroad memorabilia. He loved the music of the "50s and has many vinyl records. Vernon was an avid K.U. basketball fan and was a regular attendee at the State Basketball Tournament.
He was married to Carolyn Joyce Spence on October 29, 1960, at Powhattan.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce, of the home; a daughter: Christina Brown (Chris) of Topeka; a granddaughter: Lauren Brown of Topeka; and a brother Arthur Leroy Wenger (Martha) of Hiawatha. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father: Wilbert Phillip Kneisel; brother: Howard John Wenger; and sister: Diane Helena Wenger.
A memorial visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Memorial interment of cremains will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka.
