Vernon Buschbom

September 4, 1935 — December 11, 2021

Vernon Dale Buschbom (Busch or Rudy), 86, passed away in his home at 1:32 p.m. on December 11, 2021. Vernon will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Sharon Senogles; their children: Vernon Scott, Becky Jo (Larry) Black, Raymond Dale, and Billy Dean (Tina), all local.  He had six grandchildren: Beau,  Krystal, Joe, Baylea, Brayden, & Ty; 12 great grandchildren, as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Vernon was a very talented man, there wasn't anything he couldn't do.... from remodeling and building houses to making furniture.  He made a coffee table and end tables out of old oak that will be treasured by our family forever.  Those who knew Vernon also knew he was a heck of an athlete.  He played football and had a passion for baseball.  In fact, Vernon played for the most dominant team in Kansas during its era, the Mosby-Mack Post 1 American Legion team, and was recognized in the Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.  Between 1945 -1955, the team played in eight state championship games and won six of them.  When Vernon had an opportunity to go play professional ball, he chose to marry Sharon and raise their kids instead.  We somehow don't think he ever regretted that decision!  It couldn't have been an easy choice, so we're glad he chose family. Vernon was also an avid golfer. He absolutely loved the game and was good at it! A bigger heart you would never have guessed, Vern and Sharon ran an adult care home for more than 20 years in North Topeka and were always helping people or taking someone in.  For more years than not, there was always someone living with our family.  Vernon will be missed by those who knew him, but more importantly he will be remembered!

At Vern‘s request, no services will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
