Verlyn "Butch" Eugene Smith, 76, of Topeka, passed away on November 16, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital.
Butch was born on July 30, 1946 to Ray and Emma (Schuette) Smith in Junction City, Kansas.
He graduated from Alta Vista High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served for 3 years.
After his military career, Butch worked the rest of his lifetime as an auto body technician, repairing different vehicles that had extensive damage to them. Butch was an avid collector of everything. He enjoyed attending swap meets, square dancing with his wife, Episcopal Marriage Encounter and enjoyed presenting to other couples. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in the garden. Butch also liked to bird hunt in his younger years with his children, on the family farm. Butch also loved to go on walks with his two fur babies.
On July 11, 1970 he married Karen Mae Smith (Abel) at North Topeka Baptist Church. Butch and Karen lived in Topeka and together had two children and adopted one.
Butch was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka for 30 years.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Karen; children, Deanna (Kenneth) Mahoney, William (Lindsay) Smith, and Dwayne Smith; brother, Clark Smith; grandchildren, Kenneth Mahoney, II., Christopher Main, Tiffany Mahoney, Dwayne Smith, II., Marissa Smith, Emma Smith, Drake Smith, and Daizey Smith.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, Topeka, Kansas at 11:00 am.
Graveside Service will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 pm .
