VERA MAY MCDONALD 1923-2011
Vera May McDonald, 88, retired R.N. and longtime resident of Topeka passed away August 30, 2011.
Vera was born nine miles south of Topeka, March 2, 1923 to Wm. Earl and Ollie May McDonald. She attended Topeka Public schools graduating from Topeka High School in 1941. Vera was a member of the Student Cadet Nurse Corps, graduating from the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing, Class of 1945. She later did graduate work at Washburn University.
Vera was a caring nurse always concerned about her patient's welfare. She worked at various hospitals in the Topeka, Kansas City and Seattle areas and did private duty work during her career. She retired early due to a disability in 1972.
Vera loved all animals and was especially fond of small dogs. She was an avid letter writer and made an effort to keep in touch with family and friends all over the U.S. Vera was a devoted Christian and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She moved to the Topeka facility HIS at Highland Park in 1999 and had many wonderful friends there.
Survivors are a brother and wife, Wm. E. "Bill" and Connie McDonald, Bartlesville, OK.; nephews Mark McDonald, Pittsburg, PA ; Michael McDonald and wife Beth, Oklahoma, City, OK; and David McDonald, San Mateo, CA. Two special grand-nieces Michelle Stutsman and husband Bill, Corona, CA; Donna Burtnett and husband Gregg, Santa Maria, CA. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Viola Blush and two brothers Elmer Kenneth and James Earl McDonald.
Private Burial is in Rochester Cemetery.
