OBITUARY: Mrs. Velda Mae Lake
Mrs. Velda Mae Lake, 75, Topeka, died Tues., May 6, 2008, at her home. She was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Topeka, the daughter of Ress T. and Nettie B. (Michael) Flowers. Velda had attended North Topeka Baptist Church.
She was married to LeRoy W. Lake on July 24, 1950, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nelda Mae Lake, on Dec. 4, 1981; a grandson, Walter Charles Lake, on Sept. 10, 1970; 2 great-grandchildren; 8 brothers; and 5 sisters.
Surviviving are 2 daughters: Leanna Compton and Beth Hester both of Topeka; 3 sons: Steven L. Lake, Charles R. Lake, and Frank S. Lake, all of Topeka; 2 brothers: Gerald R. Flowers of Wichita and William E. Flowers of Topeka; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM, Sat., May 10, 2008, at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Velda will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.
