OBITUARY: Velda Belle Kelley
Velda Belle Kelley, 84, Topeka, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013. She was born May 15, 1928, at Winona, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard J. and Hazel B. (Marsteller) Koons.
Velda was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist where she formerly served as treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher. She was a retired secretary from Washburn University.
Velda was married to Dale T. Kelley on June 1, 1947, at Winona, Kansas.
Surviving are her husband: Dale T. Kelley of the home; children: Sandra R. McChristy (Neal) of Pittsburg, Kansas, Larry D. Kelley of Lawrence, Kansas, Connie D. Gibson (Rusty) of Winona, Mississippi, and Kit L. Kelley of Topeka; brother: James E. Koons (Kathy) of St. James, Missouri; seven grandchildren: David McChristy of Lawrence, Kansas, Erin McChristy (Brandon Alexander) of Marietta, Georgia, Cody Kelley of Holton, Kansas, Dane Gibson of Winona, Mississippi, Kevin Gibson (Deandra) of Grenada, Mississippi, Jonathon Gibson (Brittany) of Winona, Mississippi, and Katie Gibson of Memphis, Tennessee;and three great-grandchildren: Sage Alexander of Marietta, Georgia, Kylar Gibson of Grenada, Mississippi, and Rhett Gibson of Grenada, Mississippi and one niece, Lori (Ken) Dixon and one nephew, Mike (Shellie) Koons, both of St. James, MO. and great-nephews, Zack, Brayden, Dakota and Tanner.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 12, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
