OBITUARY: Veda Lee Tolle
Veda Lee Tolle, 90, of Holton, formerly of North Topeka, died Wed., Jan. 7, 2009, at Medical Lodge, Holton. She was born Aug. 21, 1918, at Milan, MO. She was the youngest child of Marion Tennessee and Hila Mae (Crump) Burress. Veda attended Wilhight Public School in the Riger, MO community.
On March 24, 1934, she married E. Howard Tolle in Milan, MO. They lived in the Galt, MO community until moving to Topeka in 1936. Howard preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 2007. She was also preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
Veda was a homemaker and very active in Seaman Congregational Church and her community. She also helped her husband with farming. Veda and Howard moved to the Seaman community in 1951 after the flood and lived there until moving to rural Holton in 2004, to live with a granddaughter and family, Kathryn and Monty Tyler, and their three children.
She is survived by a son: Kenneth Tolle of Topeka; a daughter: Darlene Mastin (Wilford) of St. John, KS; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who have spent much time in her home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Sat., Jan. 10, 2009, at Seaman Congregational Church, 2036 NW Taylor, Topeka. Interment in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove. Veda will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veda Lee Tolle Memorial Fund c/o Denison State Bank, POB 71, Holton, KS 66436.
