Tom VanHoutan
Thomas Wayne VanHoutan, 48, Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Midland Hospice House following a massive heart attack.
He was born November 9, 1956 in Atchison, son of Dean VanHoutan and Rena Page. He graduated from Royal Valley High School in 1974.
He was employed by US Foods, Topeka. He attended Oakland Presbyterian Church, Topeka. He was a member of PKC and UKC. He was an avid Coon hunter and outdoorsman.
He married Kimberly Sue Jessop on June 6, 1975. She survives of the home. He is also survived by two sons, Chad VanHoutan and his wife Crystal; Andy VanHoutan and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Dylan, Dalton, Bridget, Cody, and Briana, all Oskaloosa.
Other survivors include his mother and stepfather, Rena and Bob Curley, Osage City; his father, Dean VanHoutan, Picayune, Mississippi; a brother, Bill Peden, Meriden; a sister, Vicki Schaefer, St. Marys; halfbrothers, nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell VanHoutan and Rick Peden.
Tom will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., that evening. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozawkie Cemetery, Ozawkie, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tom VanHoutan Memorial Fund in care of Employment Security Employees Credit Union 401 SW Topeka Blvd. Topeka, Kansas 66603. Funds will be designated by the family at a later time.
