Thomas Harkness

Thomas L. Harkness, 75, of Topeka passed away on September 8, 2021.  He was born August 15, 1946 in Newberry, Michigan the son of Wilmer and Ruth A. Rushton Harkness.  Thomas served our country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.   He moved to Topeka from Wamego in 1973.   He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 38 years and was an officer for the local Rubber Workers Union and later the Steel Workers Union.  Tom was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Topeka.

He was married to Diane Marie Morris on May 22, 1976 in Topeka.  They were married for 31 years before Diane preceded him in death in 2007.

He has two stepdaughters, Tammy Bevier and husband Andy of Nauvoo, Illinois and Christine Hoffert and husband Greg of Lincoln, Illinois; siblings, Dwight, Steven,  Linda, Kathy and Idessa.; and two step-grandchildren, Amber and Alex who survive.

Along with Diane, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Keith.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17 th at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS 66608.  Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.   Interment will follow in Half Day Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Topeka Zoo.    www.davidsonfuneral.com
