Thomas A. Desmond

Thomas A. Desmond, 66, of Nevada, Missouri, formerly of Topeka, passed away on March 18, 2020 at North Kansas City Hospital.   He was born August 27, 1953 in Tucson, AZ the son of Charles and Esta Barr Desmond.   Thomas moved to Topeka at a young age.   He attended Highland Park High School.   Thomas served his country in the army and in the navy.   He served on board the USS Saratoga on its deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.   He worked as a mental health technician for over 30 years.   Thomas worked at the Topeka State Hospital, Colorado Mental Health Institute in Denver and at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka prior to retiring.

Thomas lived in Colorado for 20 years before returning to Topeka.  He loved the mountains, loved dogs, computer technology, video games, anything with a remote control, loved to cook and was a great cook.   Family favorites were his lasagna and spinach quiche.  His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas.

Thomas met Michael Whittington on December 23, 1988.   They were married at Georgetown, Colorado.    Other survivors include his brother, Michael Desmond and wife Jan of Ozawkie, Kansas; sisters, Diann Moore of Topeka, Sally Hintze and husband Ron in Wausau, Wisconsin and Donna Desmond of Topeka.

He was preceded by his parents; and his sister Carol Ann Brenneman.

A celebration of life will be held at the Woodshed in North Topeka on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  A memorial service and military honors will be bestowed at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
