Thomas C. Martin, 92, of Tecumseh, KS, peacefully passed away the last day of summer, Friday, September 21, 2012 at St. Francis Health Center with his family by his side.
He was born May 28, 1920 in Tecumseh, the son of Leon R. and Catherine (Riley) Martin. He was a graduate of Highland Park High School.
Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army during WW II in Europe. After coming home, he married Neva Baumgart in 1948. They have 3 children, Claudia (Jack) Gies, Joyce (Sandy) Rommel and Paul Martin. He has 4 grandchildren, Nicole Dial, Erica Nolan, Michele (Cory) Tiedeman and Jacob (Sarah) Gies; 6 great-grandchildren, Colby, Chase and Carson Nolan, Alexis and Taryn Dial and Elena Gies; a brother, Willis Martin and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Martin and a sister, Emmaretta Cockrill.
Tom drove a truck for Fleming Foods and served as rural mail carrier in Tecumseh and finished his career as Postmaster at the Tecumseh Post Office. He was a member of Tecumseh United Methodist Church, Tecumseh Kiwanis. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 17 of A.F. & A.M., and a 32nd Degree Mason with Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment with military honors will follow at the Bauer Cemetery, Tecumseh. Thomas will lie in state after 1 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network through St. Francis, 1700 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606 or Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542.
