Thomas M. Bunger

April 11, 1934 — July 10, 2021

Thomas Marion Bunger passed away on July 10, 2021 at the Legend at Capital Ridge Assisted Living Facility where he was a resident for just a few days.  Tom was born in Topeka on April 11, 1934, to Clarence & Violet (Coffee) Bunger.  Tom attended Topeka schools and graduated from Washburn Rural in 1952.  Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp.  Tom was very proud of his service to the Marines and the year he served in Korea during the Korean War.  Tom married Donna Eileen McCord on December 6, 1965, in Lawrence.  Donna passed away on October 7, 2011.  Tom retired in 1993 from the City of Topeka Fire Department after 38 years of service.  In his spare time, Tom enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and was very active in the shooting sports up into his seventies.  Tom was also selected by the Topeka Capital Journal as #48 of the top 100 athletes of Shawnee County.

Tom is survived by his two sons, Brett (Mandy) Bunger of Auburn and Brad Bunger of Topeka; a brother and sister-in-law Gene and Ginny McCord of Topeka; three grandsons, Brandon, Bryce and Blake, and a niece DeAnn Leslie.

Tom’s request was to be cremated.  A private family service with Military Honors will be held at the Eskridge Cemetery at a later date.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Eric and Dawn Price for being good friends and good neighbors especially when Dad’s health started to decline.  Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.  davidsonfuneral.com
