OBITUARY: THEODORE J. APPELHANZ, Sr.
Theodore J. Appelhanz, Sr., 80, of Topeka passed away, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at his home. He was born June 28, 1926 in Topeka the son of Jacob J. and Barbara Hefner Appelhanz.
Mr. Appelhanz was a member of Mater Dei Parish, and Knights of Columbus Council #2608. He worked for Seymour Foods for 42 years; he and his wife owned and operated the Cracker Barrel Restaurant for 5 years in Lampe, MO; he was employed by Seaman School District and the United Methodist Home.
He is preceded in death by a son Jacob J. Appelhanz on August 25, 2004, a sister, Eva Berwert and three brothers, Paul, Ralph and Raymond Appelhanz.
Surviving are his wife Rosezella J. (Best) Appelhanz of the home, four sons, Theodore, Jr. and wife, Nancy, David M. and wife, Diane, Mark A. and wife, Judy, and Anthony R. and wife, Stephanie, all of Topeka; five daughters, Theresa "Anne" Swanson and husband, Brad, of Winfield, Robin R. Lawson and her husband, Mack, Gayla M. Garrison and husband, Richard, all of Lampe, MO., Sandra L. Franznick and husband, John, South Lake, Texas, and Lisa L. Bolton and husband Shawn, Topeka; three brothers, Adam, twin brother, Isadore "Ike", and Leonard Appelhanz and a sister, Mary Catherine Allen all of Topeka, 31 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Assumption Church, 204 SW 8th. Interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Appelhanz will lie in state after 2:00 PM, Sunday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral chapel.
