Thelma L. Allendorf, age 95, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at her home in North Topeka. Thelma was born November 23, 1926 the daughter of Mark and Margaret (Harries) Chapman. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1944 and Washburn University in 1980 with an education degree. She married Velmar “Bud” Allendorf November 10, 1944 in Topeka. He preceded her in death May 25, 1982. She was a teacher at Sacred Heart School. She was a longtime member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church where she taught Crusaders Sunday School class and was active in UMW and Joy Group. She was president of the North Topeka Historical Society and volunteered at the Overland Station, Kansas History Museum and Topeka Rescue Mission.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael G. Allendorf March 11, 1969 and five brothers, Jerry, Leslie, Donald, Lester, and Eugene Chapman.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Allendorf (Betsy); daughter, Kelly White (Steve); sister, Margaret Williams; brother Larry Chapman; three grandchildren, Angie Allendorf Price (Scott), Amber Allendorf Bonnell (Dave), and Adam White; three great grandchildren, Josie Dease (Emory), Abby Price-Offermann (Micah) and Dawson Bonnell and two great-great grandchildren, Carson and Harper Dease.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Friday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church and sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
