OBITUARY: Susan Y. Schulte
Susan Schulte, 66, Topeka, passed away Fri., Dec. 31, 2010, at Stormont-Vail Hospital's ER. She was born Jan. 26, 1944, at Emporia, the daughter of Vernon J. and Anna Mae (Allen) Schulte. After her father's death, she was raised by her mother and step-father, Wilbur Tanner. She is survived by her son, Marc and Sonja Parry and her daughter, Anjanette and Mark Aldridge. Susan has three grandchildren: Trent and Jenna Parry, Cortney Parry, Krystle Thompson. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Landan and Jonnathan. During her life she worked for Bell Telephone, Goodyear, and Mize-Houser. Most of her work revolved around Tanner Care Home where she was the Administrator for several years, and then working at The Lodge, a group home for the mentally ill, for 29 years where most of the clients called her Mom. During this time she was also instrumental in coordinating the opening of many clubs owned and operated by Dean Duermeier. She graduated from Highland Park High School; attended Emporia State Teachers College; and graduated from Barton County Community College. Susan was a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and was a member of KPNHAA for many years, serving the association as secretary, treasurer and convention booth chairperson. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church where she participated in a weekly bible Study group. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Fri., Jan. 7, 2011, at Fellowship Bible Church. Interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Susan will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thurs., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
