OBITUARY: Master Sgt. Susan Marie Emerson
Master Sgt. (Ret.) Susan Marie Emerson, 52, Mayetta, died Sat., Sept. 4, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was born Oct. 17, 1957 in Topeka, the daughter of Earnest E. "Gene" and Bonnie L. (Berger) Emerson. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. She served in the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Master Sgt. after 23 ½ years of service. She had served in Italy, Germany, France, Honduras, California, South Carolina, New Mexico, and Desert Storm. Surviving are her parents: Gene and Bonnie Emerson of Topeka; 4 sisters: Melody Chambers (Dan), Penny Emerson, Terri Comfort, and Dona May (Joe); and a brother: Carl Gene Emerson, all of Mayetta. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Kieth Comfort. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Sept. 9, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. A Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard will conduct military honors at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Susan will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
