OBITUARY: Susan Jane Thompson Hawkins
Susan Jane Thompson Hawkins was born in Topeka, on Oct. 25, 1946, the daughter of Warren Grayson and Helen (Lowe) Thompson. She married Darryl Hawkins in Topeka. Susan was an elementary school aide in the Leavenworth school system for over 25 years. Susan passed away July 24, 2011, in Leavenworth. She was preceded in death by her parents and Darryl. Susan is survived by her longtime companion, Larry McGraw, of Perry; son, Brian Hawkins, of Nixa, MO; grandsons, Grayson Hawkins of Lansing and Julian Hawkins of Ozark, MO; aunt, Frances Dossey of Leavenworth; and her "cousin-brother," Charles Dossey and his wife, Carolyn, of Leavenworth. Susan had a big heart for Larry, her family, her friends, the students she worked with through the years, and her cats. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625, NW Rochester Road, Topeka, KS 66617. Memorial arrangements are pending. Inurnment of cremains will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka, KS.
